The Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare) is a longtime favourite of aquarists. This shoaling cichlid is relatively peaceful compared to other members of its family. It also has a very thin, tall body unlike most other cichlids.
Origin:
These angelfish are native to the Amazon River basin in South America. They are typically found in slow-moving rivers, flooded forests, and shallow lakes. Their natural habitat consists of dense vegetation and submerged tree roots.
Tank Set Up:
it is recommended to have a tank with a minimum capacity of 20 gallons. The tank should be well-planted with live plants and have plenty of hiding spots created by driftwood or rocks. A gentle water flow and subdued lighting will mimic their natural habitat.
Diet:
These angelfish are omnivorous and have a varied diet. They will readily consume high-quality flake or pellet food, supplemented with live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. Offering a diverse diet will ensure their nutritional needs are met.
Size:
The Red Devil Angel Fish typically reaches a size of around 4CM. They have a moderate growth rate, and their size can be influenced by factors such as diet, water quality, and tank conditions.
Behavioural Traits:
These angelfish are known for their peaceful nature, making them suitable for community aquariums. However, they can become territorial during breeding or if they feel threatened. They are generally active swimmers and enjoy exploring their surroundings.
Water Parameters:
These angelfish thrive in water with a temperature range of 75-82°F (24-28°C) and a pH level between 6.5 and 7.5. It is important to provide them with clean and well-oxygenated water. Regular water changes and the use of a reliable water conditioner are recommended.
