Origin:

This species is native to South America, specifically found in the Amazon River basin and its tributaries. It thrives in freshwater environments with slow-moving or still waters, such as rivers, lakes, and flooded areas.

Tank Setup:

To provide a suitable habitat for the Striped Silver Dollar, it is recommended to have a well-planted aquarium with plenty of hiding spots and open swimming areas. The tank should be spacious, ideally with a minimum capacity of 30 gallons to accommodate their active nature. A sandy substrate and the addition of driftwood and rocks can mimic their natural habitat.

Diet:

In the wild, the Striped Silver Dollar is an omnivorous species, feeding on a variety of plant matter, insects, and small crustaceans. In captivity, they can be fed a balanced diet consisting of high-quality flakes or pellets, supplemented with occasional live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia.

Behavioural Traits:

Water Parameters:

The Striped Silver Dollar prefers slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH range of 6.5-7.5. The temperature should be maintained between 75-82°F (24-28°C), and the water hardness should be moderate, around 5-15 dGH.
